Peter Carter OBE joins The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa board
Balmoral Group has announced the appointment of Stephen Carter, OBE, to the board of The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa as a non-executive director.
Mr Carter is a highly respected leader in the five-star hospitality sector, known for his exceptional ability to oversee refurbishment and investment in high-profile hotels. Over his extensive career, Stephen has been General Manager at some of Scotland’s most prestigious hotels, such as the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, Cameron House Resort on Loch Lomond, and The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa in St Andrews. Stephen was also instrumental in the creation of the St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa (now Fairmont St Andrews) where he led the project from planning approval to the creation of a 5-star resort.
With over fifty years of experience in the hospitality and tourism sector, Mr Carter has made a significant impact on the industry. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an OBE for services to the hospitality industry in 2007, and he has also received VisitScotland’s Silver Thistle award for outstanding contribution to Scottish Tourism.
Currently, he serves as the chairman of effective hospitality management, a company dedicated to enhancing customer-focused operational standards, building team spirit, and fostering individual development at all levels of management.
Sir Jim Milne, chairman and managing director of Balmoral Group, expressed his enthusiasm for Stephen’s appointment, saying: “We are delighted to have Stephen join The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa board and honoured to have someone of his calibre as a non-executive director.
“Stephen is highly respected in the hospitality industry and has held senior management positions in some of the top hotels in the UK. His support and advice on the future strategy, combined with the financial resources of the Balmoral Group, will be key to ensure that the Marcliffe remains one of the best Hotels in Scotland.”
Mr Carter added: “I am honoured to join the board of the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa and work with The Balmoral Group’s board of directors under Sir James Milne’s leadership to develop the well-established reputation of this renowned hotel into the future.
“Stewart Spence and his family have made the Marcliffe one of Scotland’s top hotels, and I am excited to help merge the values and aspirations of The Balmoral Group with the Marcliffe’s renowned hospitality. Together, we aim to create a unique Aberdonian welcome that will benefit visitors, residents, and Scottish tourism.”
In addition to this appointment, Balmoral Group is making good progress with the search for a new General Manager for The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, which they hope to announce shortly.
