New Dundee office for cybersecurity experts Core to Cloud

England-based cybersecurity company Core to Cloud is expanding into Scotland with a new office in Dundee following major contract wins to deliver ongoing cybersecurity support and training to NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES).

Last year healthcare organisations saw a 69% increase in cyber-attacks worldwide compared to 2021, with UK sites experiencing, on average, 785 cyber-attacks a week.

Among these was the major supply chain attack on the NHS 111 service and its critical patient management system, which rendered many Trusts without access to vital patient data, while also disrupting services linked to ambulance dispatch, out-of-hours appointments and emergency prescriptions.

Under the new contract, the award-winning cyber solutions specialist, Core to Cloud, will deploy a range of security services across all 14 NHSScotland Health Boards, from end-point protection through to threat detection. While also working with the NES, the education and training body for the NHSScotland, to deliver cybersecurity training to doctors, nurses and healthcare staff.

In partnership with Immersive Labs, the Core to Cloud team will run regular cybersecurity simulation tests across the health boards to assess their decision making against the latest threats. Designed to mimic real-life cyberattacks, these hands-on tests will measure the cybersecurity readiness of NSS staff and build the cyber resilience of their teams.

James Cunningham, CEO of Core to Cloud, said: “Working with NHS National Services Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland seemed like a natural next step for our business. Core to Cloud already provides online protection to over a quarter of NHS Trusts in England and Wales so to be able to expand our cybersecurity services into the health service in Scotland is a real privilege.

“Now with our new office in Dundee, we’re perfectly positioned to provide ongoing support to local trusts as well as the wider Scotland community from education, retail to business and other blue light services. It’s exciting times for Core to Cloud as we look to invest and grow the business in the north of the UK.”

Core to Cloud’s expansion into Scotland closely follows the opening of the Abertay Cyber Quarter in June last year, a new £18m cybersecurity research and development centre housed within Abertay University, Dundee.

Core to Cloud is working closely with the University to host regular training and events for students as part of the company’s investment to help nurture and grow the next generation of cybersecurity specialists in the UK and combat the ever-present threat of cyber-crime.
