Double award win for Wheatley’s Queens Quay housing development in Clydebank

Double award win for Wheatley’s Queens Quay housing development in Clydebank

A Wheatley Group housing development in Clydebank has won two prestigious awards.

Queens Quay, on the site of the former John Brown shipyard, was named ‘Best Regeneration Project – Residential’ at the Herald Property Awards held in Glasgow last week.

It also won the ‘Best Affordable Housing Development – Scotland’ category at Inside Housing magazine’s development awards on Friday.

The development, made up of 146 homes for social rent and completed in October last year, is a partnership between Loretto Housing – part of Wheatley Group – Clydebank Housing Association and West Dunbartonshire Council.

The new homes are connected to an innovative district heating system which cuts carbon emissions and helps tackle fuel poverty.

Lindsay Lauder, Wheatley’s director of development and regeneration, said: “Queens Quay is a great example of partnership working on what was a complex and sometimes challenging development, with a landmark design by MAST architects.

“I’d like to thank our partners at the Scottish Government, West Dunbartonshire Council and Clydebank Housing Association. It’s great to see so much hard work by so many people recognised with these awards.”

The £27 million development at Queens Quay, built by contractors CCG, is made up of 80 homes for Loretto, 37 for Clydebank Housing Association and 29 for West Dunbartonshire Council. Fourteen of the flats are adapted for wheelchairs.

Loretto tenant Stanislava Petrova has told how her 10-year-old son Lubomir, who has cerebral palsy, is happier, more positive and more independent thanks to his new home in Queens Quay.

She said: “This is like a dream for us. Lubomir can get in and out by himself and move around on his own. It makes such a difference.”
